Production of vegetable through organic farming is generally recognized by practitioners as a method of production that uses, practices or substances which are biologically enhancing to the soil, plant life, animal and human consumers, and growers. Organic farmers rely primarily on preventive, cultural, and integrated methods of pest and disease management. Additionally, there are a number of materials that can complement and support organic management. This booke was developed to provide a useful and scientifically accurate reference for organic farmers and agricultural professionals who are searching for information on best practices, available materials, and perhaps most importantly, the efficacy of materials that are allowed for use in organic systems. A major objective of this book is to review literature for published trials on material efficacy in order to provide reliable information that can be used by farmers to effectively manage pests. An additional goal is to identify what materials have shown promise but require more research.

Dr. Sandeep Chopra is working as Associate Professor (Vegetables), Division of Vegetable Science & Floriculture, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. He obtained his Master’s and Doctorate degrees from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during 1998 and 2001 respectively. He joined the post of Assistant Professor during 2001. He has an experience of 16 years in teaching, research and extension. Presently, he is working on the production aspect of vegetable and spice crops. He has guided one Ph.D and five MSc. students during his tenure as a teacher. He has several publications to his credit, which includes research papers, technical bulletins, extension folders, newspaper articles & practical manuals and has also given radio talks in AIR on vegetable crops. Dr. Manoj Kumar is working as Assistant Professor (Vegetables), Division of Vegetable Science & Floriculture, Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. He obtained his Doctorate degree from Birsa Agricultural University, Kanke, Ranchi. He joined the post of Assistant Professor during 2005. He has an experience of 12 years in teaching, research and extension. Presently, he is working on the production aspect of vegetable crops. He has guided three MSc. students during his tenure as a teacher. He has several publications to his credit, which includes research papers, technical bulletins, extension folders, newspaper articles & practical manuals and has also vast experience in managing the vegetable production under research trials. Dr. Muneeshwar Sharma presently working as Scientist (Plant Pathology) at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch of SKUAST-Jammu since September 2007. He did graduating in Agriculture from M.D.S. University, Ajmer (Rajasthan), Master’s in Plant Pathology and Nematology from Allahabad Agriculture Institute (Deemed University) and Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (J&K). He has published 18 research papers in reputed national and international journals. He is also a recipient of "Young Scientist Associate Award".
