This book has been composed with an eye to cater the requirements of goat and sheep farmers, technology transfer experts, researchers, graduate/undergraduate students and teachers. The main aim of this book is to present the basic principles of sheep and goat production and management in a very simple language for better understanding and skills inculcation of the matter presented in this book to increasing production potential and income per unit of sheep and goat. The book covers most recent data on the subject and demonstrates various technologies in respect of sheep and goat production, breeding, feeding, reproduction, milk, meat & fibre production, health management and its technology transfer for the improvement in respect of production and profitability. Learner or beginners in goat and sheep farming can use this book as a manual of small ruminant production and management.

Dr. Safeer Alam is presently working as Professor & Head Animal Genetics & Breeding at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir, J & K having 13th position among ICAR accredited Agricultural and Anima sciences/Veterinary Universities in India. Prof. Alam is having more than 25 years of experience in extension, teaching, training and research in the field of animal sciences besides administration at different level in various agricultural organizations. Dr Alam has guided number of MVSc and PhD students in his field of specialization. He has been honored, recognition and awarded for his services and contribution by various research and development organizations/societies of India including Department of A.H., Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers welfare, Government of India. Prof. Alam has guided a large number of farmers in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir for establishment of Goat and Sheep farming besides he also has established/managed demonstration units of oat/ rabbit/ dairy/poultry/piggery farms at various Krishi Vigyan Kendra's in India. Prof. Alam has handled various projects as Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator for externally funded projects/ICAR and other agencies as well as R.C.M. projects of the University. He is also life member/member executive committees of various professional societies and also serving as Reviewer for National/International journals. He is member of several committees at University & Government levels and Life Member of many Professional Societies. Prof. Alam has published more than 50 research papers in various national and international journals of repute in his credit, authored and edited 3 books, edited 14 compendia, 3 e-books 5 monograph, /booklets and 10 extension literatures. He has presented more than 10 lead paper 50 abstracts of papers in annual symposia/conferences of the subject concerned. DR. M. Tufail Banday was born on 22nd, August 1962 in Srinagar (J&K) and did his schooling from Srinagar. He did his B.V.Sc & A.H in the year 1986 securing Ist Class from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University Hydrerabad. He obtained his Masters of Veterinary Science in Poultry Science from University of Agricultural Sciences Bangalore in the year 1989 with first class. He obtained his Doctoral degree from Central Avian Research Institute, Izatnagar, Barielly in the Year 1997. Subsequently he joined Department of Animal Husbandry, Jammu & Kashmir and served as Veterinary Assistant Surgeon for a short period. He joined as Assistant Professor in Poultry Science in F.V.Sc & A.H Shere Kashmir University of Agricultural University Of Kashmir in the year 1989 and has been serving in university from last 28 years. He also served as Associate Director Extension (Animal Sciences), SKUAST-K for 6 years. At present, he has been serving as Professor & Head of Division of Livestock Production Management in Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Shere-Kashmir Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir from last 8 years. He was the recipient of ICAR Junior Research Fellowship during his Masters Programme and recipient of CSIR Senior Research Fellowship during Doctoral programme. He is a recipient of SK Ranjhan Award for outstanding research during his Doctoral Programme from Indian Nutrition Society of India during the year 2000-2001 He has been conferred with the Fellow National from Indian Society of Animal Production & Management during the year 2014. Subsequently he was conferred with IPSA Fellow by Indian Poultry Science Association in the year 2020. He was the organizing secretary of 24th symposium cum conference-2017 by ISAPM in Srinagar. He also organized Poultry Farmers-Scientist Meet in collaboration with Worlds Poultry Science (IB) in Srinagar. Besides being a distinguished teacher, research scientist and extension worker for the past 28 years. He is involved as principle and co- investigator in a number of research projects. He has published over 287 research papers /30 review articles in the National and International journals. Besides this, he has published about 97 popular articles. He has also authored / edited eight books and contributed 03 book chapters He has also presented over 100 papers in various conferences/ symposia. He has guided 15 students in Masters and 5 students in Ph D programme in discipline of Poultry Science and Livestock Production Management. He is a life member of several professional societies. Dr. M. Moin Ansari is currently working as Associate Professor-cum-Senior Scientist and imparting teaching, research, extension & clinical activities at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir, a premier Agricultural University of Jammu and Kashmir, India. He has over 20 years of experience of teaching, research, extension education and administration. During this period he has served College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at India's foremost Agricultural University Gobind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. He has extended his services as specialist / consultant to the Zoological Park; Pet-clinic, Patna and World Bank funded Diversified Agricultural Support Project, Uttarakhand. Dr. Ansari has been honored with number of awards and recognitions for his contributions to profession. Dr. Ansari was Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator and Associated in a number of projects. He has guided 27 B V Sc & AH, 5MVSc, 01 PhD and has been a member of Advisory committee for M V Sc and PhD students in different disciplines. He is serving his duties as Reviewer Board, Advisory Board Member, Associate Editor and Editor-in-Chief etc. He is Member of several committees at University & Government levels and Life Member of many Professional Societies. To his credit he has published more than 121 publications in various national and international journals of repute, authored and edited 5 books, edited 4 compendia,1 booklet, 16 chapters in books, presented more than 65 paper abstracts in annual symposia/ conferences and has delivered many Radio and TV talks in addition to being a resource person in training programmes at such a young age is itself a proof of his caliber. He has also attended and delivered lectures in workshops, seminars, summer school, short courses and faculty trainings.
